Fondue Vacherin Mont d’Or | Recipe
With the shorter days, Vacherin Mont d’Or returns to the table. Even if we retreat indoors more often, it is worth stepping outside for special moments. At the OFYR, the fire keeps us warm while we enjoy a Fondue Vacherin Mont d’Or – a simple and atmospheric apéro in the crisp autumn air.
Vacherin Mont d’Or is a soft cheese made from thermised cow’s milk with a creamy texture and a slightly sweet flavour that fully develops when melted. Baked directly in the spruce-wood box it is sold in, it is one of the easiest and most delicious ways to enjoy cheese outdoors.
Preparation
Prepare the OFYR
Light a fire with dry hardwood and heat the plate evenly. Once the surface is hot and drops of water instantly evaporate, the OFYR is ready to use.
Ingredients for 4 people
- 1 Vacherin Mont d’Or AOP in its wooden box (approx. 450–500 g)
- 1 crusty baguette
Method
- Wrap the Vacherin Mont d’Or in its box with two layers of aluminium foil.
- Prick the top rind several times with a fork.
- Place the cheese on the hot OFYR plancha and cook for 20–30 minutes until fully melted.
- Cut the baguette into pieces and dip directly into the creamy cheese.
Serve immediately – a comforting autumn treat to share around the fire.
